Mekhi B.
Daelynn M.
Madeleine B.
Jada R.
Reflection Room Coordinator Christine Savernik was recognized as Staff Member of the Month for being willing to pitch in wherever needed. She makes every effort to help students get themselves together so they can improve their day. She makes connections which allows her to be supportive to staff and students across the building.
Teacher Julie Spies was recognized as Faculty Member of the Month for her dedication to supporting the preschool students in best preparing them for Kindergarten while keeping in mind what is most appropriate for a student their age. She also supports teachers in the building as a model for classroom management.
Mrs. Danyelle Nall, parent of Taj N. and PTA President Parent of Preschool Students, was recognized as Family Member of the Month. Mrs. Nall has been an incredible resource to ensure that the students and families of the ELV have opportunities that make their school experience fun and memorable. She leads by example and has helped to develop a PTA that continues to grow.
Following the recognitions, Principal Mary Thomas, Assistant Principal Jaime Mediate and Preschool Coordinator Lisa Taylor presented about the Early Learning Village. The presentation focused on six topics: Redesign, Special Visit, Professional Learning, Family Engagement, Students, and the ELV Team.
Redesign
With the decision to redesign the structure and curriculum of the ELV to be literacy focused, the building also needed to adapt to be better equipped as a Pre-K through 2nd Grade building. Over the summer, sails, sensory paths and common spaces were installed to help define space, engage students and give space for students to self-regulate.
The Learning Centers, Common Learning Spaces and Fab Lab also received updates to better match student needs.
Special Visit
Early this school year, Governor Mike DeWine visited the ELV as part of his Read Ohio Initiative. He chose to come to Euclid because of our commitment to the Science of Reading. During his trip, we shared about the literacy work being done in the building and around the District.
Professional Learning
Throughout the year, teachers at the ELV participate in ongoing professional development to continue their growth as teachers and learn about the best practices in education. Using their ELVoice Staff Newsletter and Teacher Based Teams, teachers are able to learn and review strategies and work together to support student growth and achievement.
Family Engagement
The team at the ELV believes that the home-school connection is important and it begins by creating a strong foundation in preschool. The ELV has developed strong family partnerships through several forms of communication–most importantly their Family Newsletter that goes out every week and discusses topics relevant to academics, attendance, important dates, and highlighting staff members.
The ELV and the ELV PTA have worked hard to create opportunities for families to join their students in the building and classroom by hosting events like the fathers walk, fall festival, paint nights, read alouds and a Sneaker Ball.
The ELV has also partnered with Community Groups like Head Start, the Euclid Schools Foundation, the Department of Children & Youth, Euclid Public Library, Holden Arboretum, Storybook Yoga and the Children’s Museum of Cleveland to deliver enriching opportunities for their students.
Students
The ELV is a PBIS demo-site for the Educational Service Center of Cleveland. ESC consultants work with the ELV twice monthly to continue building PBIS systems that foster positive behavior support for the students. The 3 R’s (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn) are embedded across all areas of the school community. Each week the school holds a Gold Medal Parade where students earn the opportunity to walk through the halls as teachers, staff and other students cheer them on.
The ELV is committed to the Explicit Instruction approach to foster achievement in students. The teachers model, give the students a chance to practice, and then work on their own to demonstrate their learning.
The ELV Team
The ELV Team takes pride in the work they do and do their best for the students and families every day. Many teachers participate in teams to help plan events or engagement activities for the students. The teachers collaborate to support one another while providing the best learning environment possible to students and their families.
